TURKEY TRIP IN DEPTH

After breakfast, we travel in comfort aboard Majesty UK Travel’s private coach, taking in the ever-changing landscapes of Turkey. Our route takes us through Ankara, Turkey’s capital, before continuing toward the captivating region of Cappadocia.

In the afternoon, we explore Derinkuyu Underground City, an incredible multi-level settlement built 60 meters below the surface. This ancient refuge contains living spaces, a church, wells, food storage areas, and even stables, offering a fascinating insight into the resourcefulness of its early inhabitants.

For those looking to unwind after a day of travel and exploration, there is an optional visit to a traditional Hammam (Turkish bath) to relax and rejuvenate.

Start the day with an unforgettable experience—a hot air balloon ride at sunrise over the breathtaking landscapes and fairy chimneys of Cappadocia. Be sure to have your cameras ready to capture this magical moment.

After returning to the hotel for breakfast, we begin exploring Göreme and its surroundings with our expert guide. Our first stop is the Göreme Open-Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring a remarkable collection of rock-carved churches, chapels, and monasteries adorned with ancient frescoes. Next, we visit Uçhisar Castle, an impressive fortress carved into a towering rock formation, offering panoramic views of the region. Within its caves and tunnels, you will find a network of storerooms, chapels, and even burial chambers, revealing layers of history.

We then continue to Çavuşin, a historic village surrounded by the striking landscapes of Red Valley. Famous for its rock-hewn churches, this area offers a fascinating glimpse into the region’s past.

Our journey then takes us to Pigeon Valley, named for the countless pigeon houses carved into the soft volcanic rock. These dovecotes were traditionally used by locals for farming purposes and now add to the valley’s unique beauty.

In the evening, for those interested, there is an optional Turkish Night Show with dinner, featuring traditional music, folk dances, and a lively cultural performance.

Our journey continues to one of the most spectacular and well-preserved ancient cities—Ephesus. Originally founded by the Greeks in the 11th century BC, Ephesus later became the largest city and capital of the Roman province of Asia Minor. Its political and cultural significance, along with a large Jewish community, drew the attention of apostles, including Paul.

As we explore, your guide will bring history to life while you walk in the footsteps of figures like Cleopatra and Mark Antony along the city’s marble streets. Visit the grand amphitheater, the remains of the gymnasium and baths, and admire the beautifully restored Library of Celsus, one of the most iconic landmarks of Ephesus. After a day rich in history and discovery, we will head to Kuşadası for an overnight stay.

After breakfast, we travel south, passing through picturesque farmlands, rolling hills, and along the scenic Aegean coastline before arriving in Bergama, home to the legendary city of Pergamum. Once one of the most powerful cities of the ancient world, Pergamum rose to prominence after the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC and later became part of the Roman Empire in 133 BC. Despite its immense wealth and influence, it is also mentioned in the Book of Revelations.

Next, we visit the Asklepion, one of the ancient world’s earliest known medical centers. This renowned healing sanctuary, considered a forerunner to modern medical institutions, attracted health seekers from across the region, including Roman Emperors Hadrian and Marcus Aurelius. The great physician Galen, whose teachings laid the foundation for Western medicine, was trained here.

Our journey continues to the ancient city of Troy, where history and legend intertwine. Famous for its role in Homer’s Iliad, Troy has captivated historians, archaeologists, and storytellers for centuries. As we explore the ancient city walls, your guide will bring the legendary Trojan War to life. Before leaving, take the opportunity for a memorable photo with the replica Trojan Horse, a nod to the famous tale of deception and strategy.

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we set off for the historic shores of Gallipoli, the site of the ANZAC landings, one of the most tragic Allied campaigns of World War I. Each year, thousands of visitors from around the world come here to honor the soldiers who lost their lives in the fierce battles of 1915.

As we explore the former battlefields, we will come across remnants of the trenches once used by Turkish soldiers. Our journey takes us to the Lone Pine and Chunuk Bair memorials, where your guide will share the stories behind the events that shaped this landscape. Standing atop the rugged hills and deep ravines, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and sacrifices made by those who fought here.

In the afternoon, we begin our journey back to where our adventure started—Istanbul.
