Originally founded by the ancient Greeks in the 11th century BC, Ephesus flourished into the largest metropolis and administrative center of the Roman province of Asia Minor. Its prominence, along with a significant Jewish community, drew the attention of early Christian apostles, including Paul. Walk the same marble streets once graced by historical figures like Cleopatra and Mark Antony as your guide brings the city’s fascinating past to life.
In the afternoon, there is an option to visit Meryemana, also known as the House of the Virgin Mary, where she is believed to have spent her final years under the care of the Apostle John.
Later in the day, head to the charming hillside village of Şirince to sample its renowned fruit wines and take in a stunning sunset. This village is also a center for traditional carpet weaving, where you can observe the entire process—from dyeing the wool to weaving intricate patterns on wooden looms.
